Breaking
Up
By : Allexia D
“So
you love her huh” Terri said through tear stained eyes. She shook her head from side to side as she
watched him pack his bags. They had been together for almost 10 years, she
stuck by him when everyone turned their backs on him and now here he was
leaving her alone again. It was more
than she could stand. Terri grabbed the cigarette that sat on the nightstand, and
quickly lit it. Slowly she inhaled the
smoke before releasing circles of smoke in the air.
“Why
are you doing this to me Bobby” she cried falling to her knees, she couldn’t
imagine life without him she had given up her family and friends for him.
Bobby finally stopped what he was doing,
he stood briefly with his back to her, he couldn’t stand to face her at this
moment, he knew he had lead her on for so long, and now his conscious was
starting to eat at him. He never
expected things to go as far as they did but here he was stuck in the middle
of two women. He loved both of them in his own special way having them both seemed to make his life easier, they each brought a special kind of joy to
his life. And in his mind he wasn’t
willing to make a sound decision he knew Terri would always be there for him
through everything.
Bobby
finally turned to face her after what seemed like an eternity.
“Terri I’m sorry” he said as
sincerely as he could, he hated to see her cry she was a good woman and he
never knew how he could be so lucky as to run across someone as special as her.
Standing 5’7 long auburn hair, green eyes and built like an brick house she
could’ve had any man she wanted but she chose him. He was envied by many men in Howard County for snagging the young
beauty. He walked over to her, and
touched her face gently.
“But I don’t have a choice” he said
diverting his eyes down to the floor, not wanting to see the look on her face.
Instantly
Terri became angry, forming a large scowl on her face,
“That’s
bull shit and you know it Bobby” pressing her finger into his forehead with
each word she spoke. “How can you say
that to me?” She asked looking confused, I have been the one carrying us all
this time”.
Terri
walked over to the motel window, which had been their home for the last 10
months after loosing her home due to Bobby excessive gambling this was all they
could afford.
The
rain began to pour down harder, along with Terri’s tears, all she had given up
for him and he is leaving again.
“Just go Bobbi” she said feeling
defeated, this was the last time, here she was living out of a motel while he
was going home to his wife whom had recently purchased a new home after
finally freeing herself from the debt that Bobby had accumulated.
It
was then Terri realized that she was only a pawn in Bobby game he didn’t know
the true meaning of love, he played on her kindness. She closed her eyes as she thought about how
she fed into all his lies, about not being happy with his wife, and he only
stayed because of his children, the countless fights she got into with his
wife, the ugly stares she had gotten from many of the women in their small town
for sleeping with a married man. It all
came down on her like a ton of bricks as she stood at the motel window.
“Terri” Bobby said as he whispered
in her ears grabbing her from behind “Please try and understand, I do love you,
but I feel this is what is best for my family” he said half truthfully. The truth of the matter is he didn’t know
where to begin to make their situation better, it was so much easier for him to
run, that is what he always did best.
Terri didn’t bother giving him the
response he so desperately needed to hear, the response that let him know he
was always welcome to come back, but today she finally realized the man she
loved never really loved her at all. Here
she had lost everything because of him yet he was still willing to leave her
to face everything on her own now that the grass looked a little greener on
the other side. Terri wiped her eyes,
refusing to shed another tear over a man that was never really hers she had
wasted so much time on him she wasn’t wasting anymore.
Terri walked away from the window,
and began to gather up Bobby clothes, she grabbed them by the handful and made
her way to the door, her heart now filled with anger. She began tossing everything he owned out
into the rain, with each article she through out she regained a little of her
strength. She never needed him, and it
took her to hit almost rock bottom to realize it.
Bobby
tried to grab what he could to keep her from completely wrecking everything she
brought for him. “Terri please stop” he
begged, not understanding what had gotten into her, he looked at the clock that
sat on the nightstand, his cab wasn’t due for another 20 minutes he didn’t want
to spend that time standing out in the rain.
“Terri stop talk to me” he pleaded
staring at her intensely with his blue eyes, he needed her to be on his side,
more than anything. He grabbed her by
the shoulder just as she was about to head out the door and yanked her back forcefully, he turned her to face him.
“Talk to me dammit” he yelled more
out of fear than anything, he had never seen her like this before yes he has
seen her upset, but the look in her eyes this time was different and it scared
him.
They both stared at each other
quietly for a moment, all that could be heard was the rain drops that continued
to fall outside. Bobby tried to embrace
Terri in a hug, but she quickly pushed him away.
“Just get out” was all she said as
she grabbed another Newport of the stand, she couldn’t stand to look at him any
longer, this time it was over, she had given him her all, and this is how he
repaid her, so many nights he cried on her shoulder, so many nights she came to
his rescue and bailed him out of jail, paid the bookies for his gambling debts,
she looked around at now what had become her home.
A lone tear escaped her eyes as she
finally heard the door close she didn’t even bother to turn around to see him
standing out in the rain gathering his items.
She had someone she needed to call herself, someone who she had turned
her back on a long time ago for Bobby.
How she hoped it wasn’t to late, she quickly put out the cigarette and
grabbed her cell phone on the night stand.
Nervously she dialed his number, hoping he would answer, only he didn’t
answer and it went straight to voicemail, a flood of tears began to fall from
her eyes, as she listened to her husband and his girlfriend answering
machine. She threw the cell phone across
the room and sank to the floor, she hugged her knees to her chest as she began
to sob softly.
